Beware From Fake Portfolio Management Companies In India
The covid-19 pandemic is seen as a boon for Indian equities. New investors are entering the market. Spammers and fraudulent portfolio management services like the fake Wisdom Capital Group are also appearing in the market.
Bhopal-based Wisdom Capital Group is running a fraudulent portfolio management service. They are defrauding new investors. Their first target was a Whatsapp group. They’ll make phishing calls. They then message new investors and introduce them as a real PMS provider.
A friend of mine was also contacted by this Wisdom Capital Group in the Whatspp group. He introduced himself as Adarsh. Over the next few days, Adarsh kept sending screenshots of his positions and profits. They will only show profits.
My friend needed money so he invested around Rs 10,000 in the initial stage. This Wisdom Capital Group then opened an account that they claimed was Demat’s account.
In two or three days, they will show profits. For an investment of Rs 10,000, the profit is around Rs 2000-3000 per day. My friend decided to withdraw his profits. However, he was unable to withdraw the money.
He then contacts Adarsh for the withdrawal process. Adarsh asked for 20% of profits to be deposited with Wisdom Captal Group. My friend asked him to deduct the money from the profit. Adarsh disagreed and my friend sent the profit.
But after sending the profit share to them, they called my friend again to send GST charges. GST is not applicable for any SEBI registered company in India. My friend asked why GST is required? Adarsh told him it was a service charge.
My friend sent the money to Adarsh. So, to withdraw Rs. 10,000, my friend spent around Rs. 4000. My friend waited three days to get his profit back.
What’s next for this fraud portfolio management service?
My friend was waiting for his money but they called him saying all his capital and profits were lost in the market. His account does not have any funds to withdraw from.
Then they closed his account too. A key person involved in this fraudulent portfolio management service is Adarsh representing the group. Then there is Rajesh Nath as the account holder. and Amit Raghuwancy as site owners for the Wisdom Capital group.
They didn’t learn from their mistakes. Instead, they made a public appeal to serve new investors.
Hence, new investors must be vigilant and stay away from such fraudulent portfolio management service providers. Stay safe and rich!
