Cleaning Red Wine From Your Carpets

Most of us love a glass of red wine and why shouldn’t we be able to drink and enjoy it without worrying about the stains and spills that can leave. Enjoy a glass of red in a moment can turn into the destruction of your natural fiber rugs, rugs or living room.

Natural fiber carpets such as wool, cotton, sisal and silk are very absorbent materials that make it difficult to deal with when we accidentally spill a glass of red on the floor. Synthetic materials, on the other hand, are not absorbent – these fibers are materials such as nylon and polyester. Fortunately, these man-made fibers are much easier to deal with than natural fiber upholstery and carpeting; however, the same techniques apply to cleaning these stains.

First of all, if you are concerned or in doubt that you are taking the right steps or the stain is old, then it is recommended to contact a steam cleaning professional to take a look at the stain. A professional will be able to consult with you and remove the stain from the fiber with professional equipment and making sure that it is dry so there is no stain or filigree ring.

Step 1: Blot the red wine stain with a clean, dry cloth to remove most of the liquid from your carpet or upholstery. Remember the key is to remove the stain – don’t rub! Rubbing the stain will push the stain further into the material. Remember that the natural material is dry, so it will remove your stain quickly.

Step 2: Go to your pantry and get some regular table salt and sprinkle it generously on top of the stain. Wait a few minutes while the salt removes the moisture that could not be removed by blotting.

Step 3: Vacuum the pink salt from the stained area. The stain should be removed.

Step 4: If the stain is stubborn, you can make a bicarb soda / water mixture. Pour the mixture on the notch; remove again with a thirsty sponge or cloth soaking as much of the mixture as possible. Finish with a clean dry cloth until the stain is gone.

Remember to follow the golden rules of stain removal and you should be left with spotlessly clean carpets and upholstery. These steps are:

Treat the stain immediately

Blot the stain – Do not rub

Call a professional if you have trouble removing the stain or are in doubt at any time.
