1. Develop good oral hygiene habits as soon as possible:

Proper oral hygiene habits should be developed as early as possible. Baby’s gums and new teeth should be wiped thoroughly with a water-soaked gauze pad after each feeding.

2. Use fluoride toothpaste:

Fluoride toothpaste should be used as soon as baby teeth erupt (usually around 6 months) to help prevent and control cavities. Children under 3 years of age should use a fluoride toothpaste with at least 1000 ppm of fluoride, and children 3 to 6 years of age should use toothpaste with 1350 to 1500 ppm of fluoride. However, make sure your child does not lick or eat the toothpaste.

3. Correct brushing skills:

It’s important to make sure your child brushes their teeth properly. Knowing how to brush properly with the right technique helps children develop good oral health habits from an early age. However, describing proper brushing technique is not complicated for parents. Instead, they can use simple steps that explain how to hold the brush and its movements, giving kids a head start.

4. Floss:

Flossing is important to good dental health by removing particles between your teeth that your brushing activity misses. Despite its hardness, it can help prevent tooth decay and bad breath. Flossing should begin when your child’s last two molars come together, which usually happens between the ages of 2.5 and 3 years.

5. Nutritious food:

It is important to ensure that children eat nutritious foods to maintain good dental health. Hidden sugars in food and beverages are more likely to lead to tooth decay. Instead, switch to real fruit juice, which is not only nutritious but also very less likely to cause tooth decay. Eating raw fruits and vegetables, unprocessed cheese, milk, and yogurt are healthy food choices that can be included in a child’s diet for good oral health.

Limit sticky foods that stick to teeth and cause tooth decay. Foods like raisins are good for your health, but they can stick and stay on your teeth, causing dental health problems. Encouraging your child to drink water after eating sugary or sticky foods can greatly reduce the likelihood of tooth decay.

6. Visit the dentist regularly:

By the time your child turns two, you should take him or her to the dentist at least once. This helps children to get familiar with the environment and detect and prevent any dental problems early without any complicated procedures.
