The Fruit-Cake (Acts II: The Trailer-Park)

[The Curtain goes up]

Narrator

Anyone who says this to themselves is a bit one-sided, agree

The males will be happy to go into the second act, maybe we can fix that when I write it, but now I’m sorry, that’s it. To be continued…

[A month later I wrote it–the new act.] Anyway, we’re at the trailer site right now, it’s a private park site, Eva’s parents have a piece of land that they own when they come to Sao Paulo for a visit, so they have a place all ready for them Park their little trailer home in the summer, and as fall rolls around, then winter they’ll be at another trailer park in Florida, where they also own a piece of land.

When they’re both away, they’re traveling across the country in a trailer. They are retirees who come back to the park twice a year for about two or three months, depending/or should I say again, “if” they can handle the Minnesota fall or winter and the ups and downs of life, and of course, If only they weren’t bored. But they know a lot of people, a lot of “hellos,” a lot of phone calls, and visits.

They are all standing outside the trailer for a picnic now, the sausage is cooking and Lee is standing next to his fiancé, Eva, watching the food being cooked, as a mother [Holly] getting food out of the trailer [seemingly making more trips than what she needs to], along with the plates and silverware, and place them neatly on the table. Dad stood at the picnic table trying to talk to Lee about his heart attack, but couldn’t get the words out…

Acts Two and Three were completed on April 27, 2003 (2/2006 review).

If you look around, you will see a beautiful private park, mobile homes if you want, on land, areas, squares, mailboxes with names, when you enter this most famous park for retirees There is also a janitor – while the lot is expensive, it makes more sense to continue to pay the monthly maintenance fee; in most cases it is for those who come to Minnesota for a summer vacation, as before As mentioned several times, owner-tenant, get out there in time to avoid the cold winter [smart people if you ask me]。 These are mobile homes that you hang on the back of your car and driver’s SUV. Apart from a few shelters built for afternoon relaxation, nothing will remain in the park permanently, such as installing outdoor screens on patios, which of course protect people from those notorious man-eating mosquito swarms, Minnesota The state also has its share.

There are lots of wooded areas around, a medium sized pool in the park, and the neighbors walk up and down the black asphalt path that is paved around the park, this path is also used for cars so they can park their trailers in their the lot [although cars are not permitted to abuse this right of driving on the grass if need be to part their trailer; –again this privilege is just for parking and visiting [–no Sunday morning driving around].

The sun came out, the park was sparkling clean, a few dogs were running around chasing each other, and the squirrels and birds were singing. A perfect day, except Lee keeps rubbing his chest like it’s making him uncomfortable. He’s been out of the hospital for a week now and has been in the hospital for about three weeks and he doesn’t want to go back. He left with a normal heart beating and everything was fine, dandy.

As I said, everything was perfect, almost: Eva commented to Lee, “Isn’t that pretty sweetheart?” He replied, as sweetly as possible, “Well, maybe, kind of, I mean, I seem Yeah, yeah, and no. My chest kind of hurts.” Another heart-pounding thing…it actually reminds me of fighting in a war, like I’ve been dodging rockets for about an hour, Like when I was at war, it was like… ticking – kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk, something like that, a fast running clock! “

Eva says, “Look! That’s my parents old friend coming…” Adding rudely, “Hegren, Harry!” Eva waves from a stranded island in the middle of the Pacific, like a long-lost long time; they owned several apartment buildings, she told Lee, waving. [Harry has an umbrella in his hands.]

Harry waved to Eva politely.

glen [sternly and abrupt]. Good afternoon, Eva, where are your parents?

plum [looks over slowly at them with calculating eyes, pulls Eva slightly, so he can whisper to her]. I’m not feeling well, do you really want to ask them to come over?

Eva [hopefully]Dear, you are so rude sometimes, of course I have to, what will they think of me if I don’t. [Lee doesn’t answer just gives Eva a disgusting look].

Harry [apologetically]. Sorry we had to scream it out, you know hello [Lee is putting on the best smile he can, but it looks more similar to a grin]

Eva [a chatter box]. This is my husband Lee [everyone shakes hands. Within a few seconds, everyone starts talking a mile a minute, everyone but Lee that is, and nothing is distinguishable within the conversations going on].

plum [abstractedly rude]. Have you stopped with Eva’s mouth and put the lid on; I have a headache and I just don’t feel well.

Eva [offended]. He was a little grumpy today, just out of the hospital, having a heart attack and a stroke or something.

glen [concerned].Maybe we should talk to your parents later, when you’re done visiting, you know, I have a friend with a heart condition, I think, sometimes you just need a little quiet [Glen smiling at Lee; Lee smiling back as if to say, at least she understands].

Eva [appalled at the thought]oh, no, no, no, no… I wouldn’t hear of such a thing. Come see my parents. [They are now walking from the edge of the roadway, over to the trailer]

Now everyone is standing around the picnic table, Eva’s parents, Holly and Bruce, and their friends Glenn and Harry, and of course Eva and Lee. Lee’s head is spinning, and his chest seems to be hurting more than before; – he feels anxious most of the time. He rubbed his chest. Then suddenly leave the crowd and walk onto the asphalt road leading to the gate. Eva found Lee on the road, about fifty feet away; it seemed to her that he was walking aimlessly and seemed to be talking to himself.

Eva [hastily, trying to catch up with Lee]. Wait, Lee, where are you going? [She catches up] I couldn’t believe it :– you just got up and walked away.

She tries to grab his hand, but Lee moves it away, and the doorman is watching them now, so Eva asks if she can feel his chest.

Eva [now moving her hand after getting permission to do her testing, by putting her hand on his chest]; — My God, Lee, your heart beats faster than the Mad Hatter, my God, faster than a train. [She can’t help it, and adds] “…but you know, that’s not an excuse for you to behave so badly behind–Lee!

plum [shaking his head]I’m probably dying, I mean really dying, and you’re going to care about etiquette. my god woman where is the sense of reality [?]

Eva [warning emphasis]. If you continue like this, I won’t be able to handle you, I mean, I’ve always been a kind of — kind of bossy, I think, I know, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t. don’t care how you are.

plum [bewildered]. I’m not saying you don’t care, yes we have priorities, but I just don’t feel comfortable. As you can see, I’m tired.

Eva [calmly]. Yes, I insist on taking you to the hospital right after the picnic, and you can stay overnight for another check. Something happened again. This heartbeat is too fast.

plum [uneasy]The hospital, I just don’t want to go back, I love these sunny days; I really miss them when I’m in the hospital. [Then in thought, he knew his mother would be devastated again to see him go back to the hospital, they had lived together 15-years, not to include the years before high school, which was another 17-years, making it 32-years out of his 55-years on earth. He tells Eva, “Let my mother know, but simply imply it is for a check up, no more.” She agrees.

Eva [looking at Lee jokingly says]. When we get married, you will be able to pay a large medical tax. [Slowly Lee turns his head away from her, thinking, it’s a low sort of joke, but says nothing, only mumbles to his unconscious, ‘were not married yet’.]

Lee looked dumbfounded, he really didn’t want to go back to the hospital or go on a picnic with the others, but he was hungry and the hospital made sense. When they turned to go to the picnic, Eva’s hand was placed on his chest for a second time, as if to reconfirm that it was true. Then they stopped suddenly at the picnic table and her parents watched, as if putting on a show, and she confirmed, “Yeah, you have to go back to the hospital, your heat is beating too fast!” and grabbed his hand to sit down and eat .
